Freelance Content Writer / Editor - SEO & Contentful
Rate: £300 per day Outside IR35
Contract: ASAP start until 31 December 2026, with potential to extend
Full time: 5x days per week
Location: Remote - applicants MUST be based in the UK. Optional office access in Liverpool Street, London.
We’re working with an established consumer business looking for a freelance Content Writer / Editor to support its SEO team through a busy programme of website content updates.
This is a hands-on editing and publishing role, with a focus on accuracy, consistency and pace. You’ll review AI-assisted drafts, improve the copy and prepare pages for publication in Contentful, acting as the final editorial check before content goes live.
The role
- Edit articles and landing pages to make them clear, natural and trustworthy, removing repetitive language, filler and stock AI phrasing.
- Fact-check copy, flag unsupported claims and make corrections using the team’s guidance.
- Work directly in Contentful to edit entries and configure components such as tables, FAQs and calls to action.
- Apply on-page SEO principles, including heading structure, internal links, descriptive anchor text and metadata.
- Check page formatting and rendering before publication.
- Follow editorial guidelines and maintain consistent quality across batches of content.
- Meet agreed weekly delivery targets and share feedback on recurring issues in drafts.
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience as a content writer or editor, with strong examples of hands-on editing.
- Experience working through high volumes of website content while maintaining accuracy.
- Excellent written English, with confident use of UK spelling and tone.
- Strong editorial judgement and the ability to identify and improve AI-generated copy.
- Confidence working independently, following detailed guidelines and meeting deadlines.
- Experience using a CMS; hands-on Contentful experience is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with on-page SEO would be beneficial.
- Experience in consumer advice, home services, trades or cost-led content would be an advantage.
You should also be comfortable having your name appear as the author or editor of content you work on.
Working arrangements
You’ll report to the Head of SEO and work with the team through Contentful, Monday.com, Slack and Google Workspace. You’ll use your own equipment.
The role is remote, with optional access to the Liverpool Street office. You must be based in the UK to be considered.
