2022 Headlines and 2023 Outlook

  • 2022 saw 12 months of job growth, despite employers reining in recruitment in the last 3 months
  • At Pivotal, we saw demand outstrip 2021 levels by 22%
  • Vacancy growth softened slightly in November and December, though overall demand for staff remained robust
  • The overall availability of candidates has continued to deteriorate through H2
  • Tight labour market conditions, fewer foreign workers and a greater hesitancy among people to take up new roles due to increased economic uncertainty all dampened candidate numbers
  • Although pay pressures remained historically elevated in 2022, driven by competition for workers and a rising cost of living, we have seen a softer rise in salaries during Q4.
  • The biggest demand for talent, and therefore % increases in Year-on-Year salaries is in the junior>mid-level  (0.5-3 Years’ experience cohorts) with candidates securing 15-20% pay rises
  • Employers who are able to offer existing workers and candidates’ opportunities to upskill and reskill will benefit most in this tight market
  • A flatter period in the recruitment market is inevitable in this current economic climate, but demand is being supported by some major underlying factors, including candidate shortages and digital transformation

In a world where there are more jobs than people – being able to access specialist niche talent pools is more important than ever. Pivotal’s biggest USP is our candidate community of over 30,000 Digital Specialists in London which is constantly growing.

We have built this network since 2014 and have developed a deep specialism through experience.
